Aztalan occupied approximately 900 to 1200 C.E. Cahokia occupied longer, approx 700 to 1400 C.E.  Woodland Indians who built effigy, linear and conical mounds were here first. Cahokia Mounds, on the UNESCO World Heritage list, is the largest archaeological site in the U.S. The scale of Cahokia and the number of mounds is impressive.
